Speer leads SAU at Augustana Viking Invitational

Fresh off winning its first CCAC Championship, St. Ambrose took fourth in the Augustana Viking Invitational played at Highland Springs in Rock Island, Ill., Friday and Saturday.

Katherine Speer, who was conference runner-up, led the Bees in their final tournament before the NAIA Championships in May. Speer had one of the best rounds of the tournament, firing a second-day 78, to finish in a tie for 11th with a 163.

Aleanna Mendoza and Gabrielle Langlois each carded a pair of rounds in the 80s. Mendoza finished 18th overall after rounds of 85 and 83 gave her a 168. Langlois was a spot back, shooting rounds of 82 and 88 for a 170.

Kara Williams shot an 88-91 for a 179 and Anna Hurning finished with a 197. 

St. Ambrose recorded back-to-back rounds of 340 to finish with a 680, good for fourth in the eight-team event. Augustana, led by individual medalist Avery Frick's 151 (77-74), won with a 623 (314-309).

Caitlin McDonagh and Emma Cameron competed as individuals. McDonagh shot a 181 (98-83) and Cameron finished with a 183 (91-92).

SAU will play host to the NAIA Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., May 14-17.
