Lytle ties for fifth at Duhawk Spring Invite

Amara Lytle's fifth-place effort highlighted a strong second day for St. Ambrose at the Loras Duhawk Spring Invitational played at The Meadows in Asbury, Iowa, Sunday and Monday.

Lytle shot the team's best round of the tournament, an 84 Monday that followed an opening-round 86, to finish in a tie for fifth with a 170. She was one of four Bees to shoot a lower second-round score.

Anna Hurning also carded two rounds in the 80s. She followed her 89 with an 86 for a 175, good for a share of 11th place. Katherine Speer opened strong with an 87 before slipping to a 94 for a 181 total.

Gabrielle Langlois and Caitlin McDonagh each made a big jump Monday. Langlois shot rounds of 97 and 87 for a 184 and a spot in the top 20. McDonagh made the biggest move. She followed her 103 with an 85 for a 188.

The strong second day helped the Bees finish third in the eight-team event. SAU was in fourth after a 359 Sunday but the final-round 342 allowed the team to move past Wis.-Platteville into the top three. St. Ambrose totaled a 701 to edge UW-Platteville (702).

Dubuque won the team title with a 663 (338-325). UD's Brooke Bunjes claimed medalist honors with a 158 (78-80).

SAU's Aleanna Mendoza posted the low score in the individual division. She shot a 180 (89-91) to finish 14th overall and defeat the next individual by five shots. Emma Cameron finished with a 194 (100-94).

The Bees host the CCAC Championships next Monday and Tuesday at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
