Men fourth, women seventh at Saints Classic

The men's and women's golf teams competed in the Holy Cross Saints Classic Monday and Tuesday. The Bee men finished fourth while the women took seventh in the tournament played at Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.

Jacob Stoetzel had the top finish, earning a tie for 11th with rounds of 80 and 76 for his 156. Owen Hultman, one of three Bees with an opening-round 79, closed with an 80 to finish in a tie for 14th with a 159.

Tim Marcum matched Stoetzel for the team's low round of the tournament when he fired a second-day 76. That gave him a 160 for the tournament. Jacob Rude (79-83) and Dylan McAleer (79-85) shot 162 and 164, respectively.

With rounds of 317 and 315, St. Ambrose finished fourth with a 632. Morningside (313-306=619) won the team championship by a single shot over Bethel (315-305=620). Illinois Central's Peyton Woods shot a 2-under 69 Tuesday to claim medalist honors with a 4-over 146.

The SAU women made a 26-shot jump from Monday to Tuesday. After a 379 Monday, the Bees recovered to post a 353 to finish seventh with a 732.

Amara Lytle and Katherine Speer led the way. Lytle shot an 82 after starting with a 91 for a 173. Speer made a big climb after starting with a 95. She carded a final-day 81 for a 176.

Keely Nguyen (96-92=188) and Gabrielle Langlois (102-98=200) each made a four-shot improvement. Audrey McAleer (97-105=202) also competed for SAU.

Behind medalist Kylee Purdy's 149 (74-75), Indiana Wesleyan won the team title with a 615 (311-304).

While the tournament closed the fall portion of the men's schedule, the women will compete in the TPC Deere Run Invitational in Silvis, Ill., next Monday and Tuesday.
