Bees finish season at NAIA Championships

Serving as the host school, St. Ambrose wrapped up its season at the NAIA Championships at TPC Deere Run this week.

A young Bee team featuring no seniors finished 29th in the national tournament that concluded Friday. SAU played just the first two rounds in the four-day event, missing the cut that narrowed the field to the top 17 teams after Wednesday's round.

As she has down the stretch, Katherine Speer again led the way. She was the lone Bee to post a round in the 80s, and she did it twice. Speer shot rounds of 89 and 85 to finish with a 174.

Kara Williams was second on the team, coming in with a 187 after rounds of 92 and 95. Amara Lytle was a shot back. She shot 97-91 for a 188. Audrey McAleer carded a 196 with rounds of 95 and 101. Leah Sullivan fired a 94 in the second round.

St. Ambrose climbed into 29th place Wednesday thanks to an improved second round. After shooting a 373 Tuesday, the Bees came back with a 365 for a 738 total. That pushed SAU in front of CCAC champion Saint Xavier, who ended 30th with a 747.

British Columbia put together three sub-300 rounds to win the team title with an 1199 (293-312-298-296). Keiser, which held the lead after two rounds finished second with a 1228 (297-307-314-310). Oklahoma City (1230) was third while Dalton State and William Carey tied for fourth with 1244s.

Oklahoma City's MaKayla Tyrrell was the individual medalist. She carded a 10-over 294 (71-75-76-72). Menlo's Catherine Batang and The Master's Hannah Ulibarri tied for second with 297s.
