In third place after the first day of the Highland Classic, St. Ambrose made a move on Day 2 of its season opener. The Bees fired a 329 Saturday at Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill., to finish in third place in the eight-team event.

Reigning CCAC Freshman of the Year Amara Lytle led the charge. The sophomore shot a pair of 79s to finish in a tie for seventh place with a 158.

Three of the other four Bees made multi-shot improvements from Friday to Saturday.

Kara Williams made the smallest jump, firing an 82 after opening with an 84. Her 166 was good for 12th place. Katherine Speer also started with an 84; she finished with an 86 for a 170 and a tie for 15th.

Audrey McAleer carded a 92 Friday but climbed the leaderboard with a closing 82 to finish with a 174. Aleanna Mendoza made the biggest leap. After a 105, she bounced back with a 93 for a 198 total.

The second-day improvement allowed St. Ambrose to leap the Augustana B team and Wis. Platteville. Augustana's top team won the tournament with a 602. Illinois College was second with a 642. With a 668, St. Ambrose took third by a single shot.

A second SAU team finished eighth.

Leah Sullivan led that group with a 179. She started with an 83 before slipping with a final-day 96. Aiko Mendoza was second on the team with a 186 (89-97). Emma Cameron (100-94=194), Emma Peters (98-101=199) and Jillian Blozevich (100-104=204) also competed for the Bees.

Augustana's Avery Frick took medalist honors with a 1-over 145.
