Meils' hole-in-one highlights SAU's round at TPC Deere Run Invite

Becki Meils (right) had the highlight of the tournament as she recorded a hole-in-one at TPC Deere Run Tuesday. The senior aced the 129-yard 7th hole during the second round of the TPC Deere Run Invitational hosted by William Penn.

Meils was also the Bees' top finisher, placing 32nd overall. She had rounds of 97 and 94 at the challenging course for a 191 total.

Katherine Speer had the top round of the tournament for St. Ambrose when she carded a second-round 89. That followed a 104 Monday to put her in 38th place with a 193.

Nicole Gordus rebounded from an opening-round 111 to post a 92, good for a 203 total. Emma Cameron shot back-to-back 105s for a 210 total. Leah Sullivan finished with rounds of 112 and 107 for a 219.

The second-day improvement showed in the team standings. Sitting in 10th place after starting with a 417, St. Ambrose closed with a 380 to slip past Culver-Stockton by two shots to grab ninth place with a 797 in the 13-team event. SAU finished just eight shots behind a second William Penn team for eighth place.

Bellevue (358-328=686) shot a final-round 328 to leap William Penn (341-350=691) to win the team title by five shots. Bellevue's Dominika Gradecka was individual medalist after firing a 160 (83-77).

St. Ambrose will next compete in the Bethel College Pilot Spring Invitational at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind., Apr. 9-10.
