Bowlers wrap up regular season at Hoosier Classic

Both men's and women's varsity bowling teams concluded regular-season competition this past weekend. The Bees competed at the 55th Annual Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. Always the most prestigious of all regular-season events, the tournament showcases 78 men's and 66 women's teams in annual competition that draws a majority of the top teams in the nation.

Both St. Ambrose teams struggled this time out, with the men finishing in 16th place, while the women finished in 22nd place.

The men couldn't find the range early on Saturday, finding themselves in 38th place before rallying over the final game to jump into 26th. During Sunday's 15-game baker competition, SAU rallied to move into 16th place. The top three teams after qualifying were Mount Mercy (9451), Wichita State (9352) and Lawrence Tech (9159). Lawrence Tech captured the title in the eight-team bracket finals, defeating Ottawa (Kan.) 3-1.

Zach Greim led all bowlers with 1318 for his six games. Other team members were Justin Aboud (1206-six games), Devin Richards (796-four games), Anthony Mastroianni (608-three games), Lucas Hersrud (602-three games), Lucas Finley (524-three games), Kendric Siders (496-three games) and Nic Kidd (327-two games).

The women rallied early in Sunday baker competition, moving into 10th place before a poor final five-game set dropped them into 22nd.

Placement will be in one of four locations - Addison, Ill.; Smyrna, Tenn.; Detroit, Mich.; and Dallas, Texas. Singles competition will take place Friday, March 8, while team competition will consist of 64 baker games on Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10.
