Freshman Finley leads Bees to runner-up finish at Kohawk Invite

Lucas Finley, a left-handed freshman from Longmont, Colo., led the men's bowling squad to a runner-up finish at this past weekend's Kohawk Invite. A dozen teams competed in the event.

St. Ambrose led after Saturday's traditional five team game competition, earning a 38-pin edge over eventual tournament champ Mount Mercy heading into the Sunday baker competition. On Sunday, the Bees fell behind early, and trailed by nearly 100 pins with eight games to go. Looking to win this event for the third straight season, St. Ambrose put on a solid rally heading into the final position round, as they closed to within eight pins of Mount Mercy before settling for runner-up honors.

Finley, who finished in fifth place with 1140 pins over five games, had plenty of support. Team members included Zach Greim (1117-five games), Kendric Siders (1094-five games), Justin Aboud (1029-five games), Lucas Hersrud (571-three games), Anthony Mastroianni (377-two games), Nic Kidd and Devin Richards.

The top three varsity teams were Mount Mercy (8543), St. Ambrose (8535) and Judson (7924).

A pair of Junior Varsity men's teams competed in the event as well. St. Ambrose JV1 finished in second place out of eight JV squads. They were led by senior Alex Nolan, who was competing in his final collegiate event after four seasons with the Bees. Nolan tallied 1152 for his five games, finishing in third place, and qualifying for All-Tournament honors. He was joined by teammates Jaxon Robinson (1068-five games), Zack Olkiewicz (988-five games), Raiden Nakagawa (745-four games), Brendan DeWerth (631-three games) and Will Young (540-three games). The top three JV teams were Mount Mercy JV1 (8465), St. Ambrose JV1 (8111) and Mount Mercy JV2 (7743).

SAU JV2 finished in fourth place. Sophomore Josh Prowse missed the All-Tournament team by just a single pin, and led the JV2 team with 1139 for his five games. His teammates included Logan Boll (973-five games), Matthew Edler (953-five games), Eli Haack (519-three games), Landon Mathiason (516-three games), James Dubanowich (310-two games) and Adam Reed (279-two games).

The St. Ambrose women returned with a third-place finish. The top three finishers were Mount Mercy (8143), Judson (7612) and St. Ambrose (7474). Ten women's teams competed in the event.

Team members included Sammy Upham (973-five games), Kayla Devine (952-five games), Erin Williams (930-five games), Amanda Bohn (887-five games), Marissa Bills (500-three games), Emily Barth (341-two games), Tricia Alvarado and Noelle Phillips.

The SAU JV squad finished third in a field of four teams. Team members were Maddie Ksobiech (877-five games), Bailey Tripilas (844-five games), Makenna Verdon (791-five games), Hailee Hospodar (653-four games), Madison Holevoet (622-four games) and Shay Edwards (324-two games).
