SAU bowling teams headed to Tennessee for sectionals

The men's and women's bowling squads are headed to Smyrna, Tenn., for collegiate sectionals competition, it was recently announced. This will be the third time in program history that the Fighting Bees have been placed in the Tennessee sectional; the Bees were also in Smyrna in 2014 and 2018. They were also placed there in 2020, but that year's competition was cancelled by the COVID pandemic. Competition will take place at Smyrna Bowl, just outside Nashville.

Sectionals competition takes place over two days, with 32 baker games on each day. Competition will take place on Saturday and Sunday, March 11-12. The top-80 ranked men's teams, and the top-64 ranked women's teams qualify for sectional competition. In 2024, the women's sectional field expands to the top-80 ranked teams as well. The top-four teams from each sectional will advance to the Intercollegiate Team Championships in April in Las Vegas, Nev.

Singles competition will occur on Friday, March 10, with 24 men and 24 women advancing to the Intercollegiate Singles Championships.

The sectionals assignment comes on the heels of the end of the regular season. The SAU women recorded an 11th-place finish, while the men finished in 16th place. A total of 66 women's teams and 78 men's teams competed in the 54th Annual Hoosier Classic, with a major majority of the top-50 teams in the nation at the event. Top-ranked Wichita State captured the women's title, while Tennessee Southern, ranked No. 2 in the nation, took home the men's championship.

The men finished sixth in the final regular season rankings, while the women came in ranked No. 19 in the nation.
