Men's JV captures Storm Baker Challenge

Competing in the 16th annual Storm Baker Challenge in Addison, Ill., the men's JV1 brought home the championship. They captured the title 3-2 against Davenport (Mich.). Nine JV squads competed in the event, with each team rolling 40 baker games with the top four teams advancing to match play. St. Ambrose took down Calumet in the first round 3-0 to advance to the championship match. The top two qualifiers were Davenport (7650) and Calumet (7611).

On the varsity side of things, the men qualified fourth in the field of 10 teams with 7720 pins. The Bees faced qualifying-leader Davenport, and knocked them off 3-1 to advance to the championship match, where they were defeated 3-1. The top two qualifiers were Davenport (8115) and Calumet (7942).

Men's JV also competed in the event, finishing in 6th place out of 9 teams.

The varsity women qualified fourth out of nine teams with 7119 pins. SAU squared off in the semifinal match against qualifying-leader Davenport and was defeated 3-1. The top two qualifiers were Davenport (7577) and Saint Xavier (7374).

Women's JV finished in second place (6137 pins) out of three teams.

Last weekend, the varsity squads competed in the annual Kegel Classic, a Tier 1 event. The men finished fourth in the field of 71 teams, while the women finished in 21st place in the 62-team field.

Varsity and JV squads return to action next weekend (Feb. 4-5) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at the annual Kohawk Classic. The final regular season event will be the Hoosier Classic on Feb. 18-19 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Following completion of the Hoosier Classic, the top 80 men's and women's teams in the nation advance to sectionals. On Wednesday, Feb. 22, sectional assignments will be announced. The four sectional locations are Addison, Ill.; Smyrna, Tenn.; Dayton, Ohio; and Dallas, Texas.
