SAU Bowlers wrap up regular season at Hoosier Classic

The St. Ambrose bowling squads completed their regular season this past weekend, competing at the 53rd Annual Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. The event traditionally closes the regular season, and is the most prestigious tournament in collegiate competition. Teams roll six traditional team games on Saturday, followed by 15 baker games on Sunday.

The men found themselves behind the 8-ball, sitting in 18th place after Saturday competition, but staged a fierce rally on Sunday to move into ninth place, just 11 pins short of the top-8 match play finals.

The women, meanwhile, were sitting in 10th place after Saturday, but struggled during baker competition, and dropped into 17th place on Sunday. A total of 78 men's teams and 64 women's teams competed in the event.

Men's team members were Zach Greim (1084-five games), Cameron Crowe (1080-six games), William Jones (989-five games), Justin Aboud (835-four games), Corey Roth (582-three games), Dakota Solonka (581-three games), Nate Stubler (509-three games) and Jordan Monnens (164-one game).

The women were led by Megan Hess (1228-six games), Kayla Devine (1227-six games), Addy Nelson (1164-six games), Tricia Alvarado (1038-six games), Bailey Tripilas (826-five games) and Sammy Upham (149-one game).

In the final regular season rankings, the SAU men finished No. 2 in the nation out of 172 teams, the highest in the 13-season history of the SAU bowling program. The women were ranked No. 9, their sixth consecutive season of being ranked in the top 10.

This Wednesday, at 5 p.m. Central time, sectional assignments will be announced to determine where the top 80 men's teams and top 64 women's teams will compete. The top four men's and women's teams in each sectional will advance to the Intercollegiate Team Championship Tournament in April.
