Hess continues amazing season with runner-up finish

The SAU bowling teams wrapped up their first semester of the 2021-22 campaign by competing at the Annual Warhawk Open in Addison, Ill.

The men qualified on top with a 8922 pinfall. Huntington was second with 8861, followed by Mount Mercy at 8729. In the bracket finals, St. Ambrose escaped No. 8 Calumet 2-1, before getting eliminated by St. Francis (Ill.) in the semifinals 2-0. Midland defeated St. Francis for the title. A total of 33 teams competed in the event.

In the six events bowled this semester, St. Ambrose qualified on top in five of them, and in the No. 2 spot in the other.

Jordan Monnens led the men's scoring with 1202 for his six games. Teammates included Nate Stubler (1167-six games), Seth Sikkema (1124-six games), William Jones (939-five games), Dakota Solonka (631-three games), Zach Greim (601-three games), Corey Roth (180-one game) and Justin Aboud.

The women's team struggled this event, finishing ninth in a field of 23 teams, just missing the match play finals bracket by 11 pins. St. Ambrose tallied 6922 pins. The top-three seeds were Mount Mercy (8482), St. Francis (Ill.) (8226) and Wisconsin-Whitewater (8193).

Megan Hess continued her fantastic semester, as she finished runner-up in scoring with 1220 for her six games. This resulted in her fourth consecutive All-Tournament Team performance. Her teammates were Addy Nelson (891-five games), Tricia Alvarado (695-four games), Kayla Devine (663-four games), Sarah Fox (645-four games), Karsyn Burgess (645-four games), Sammy Upham (291-two games) and Kayley Fangman (115-one game). Saint Xavier went on to bring home the championship.

Three SAU JV squads competed in the event, with two on the men's side. Men's JV1 finished fourth in the field of 16 teams, qualifying for the finals bracket, but they were eliminated in the first round by Wisconsin-Whitewater. Team members included Jorell Morris (1208-six games), Zack Denton (1088-six games), Anthony Mastroianni (707-four games), Avery Wolf (852-five games), Caleb Gillmore (560-three games), Alex Nolan (535-three games), and Joshua Collins (535-three games).

Men's JV2 finished seventh. Team members were Zack Olkiewicz (1102-six games), Sebastian Einfeldt (1042-six games), Brendan DeWerth (1041-six games), Alton Barber (1006-six games), and Justin Kennedy (1004-six games).

The omen's JV team finished eighth in a field of 11 squads. Lindsey Voss led their scoring with 909 for her six games. She was assisted by Kayla Lampe (892-six games), Jackie Juett (773-five games), Madisyn Bradford (715-five games), Hailee Hospodar (600-four games) and Bailey Tripilas (591-four games).

Competition resumes Jan. 15-16, 2022, in Addison, Ill., with the Tier 1 Kegel Classic.
