St. Ambrose falls to Olivet Nazarene 86-69

St. Ambrose saw its two-game winning streak come to an end in an 86-69 setback to Olivet Nazarene Wednesday night in Lee Lohman Arena.

The Bees stayed with the up-tempo Tigers for much of the way before tiring late. Olivet Nazarene (9-10, 6-5 CCAC) hit six of their 16 3-pointers in the third quarter to move a 41-36 halftime advantage to a 69-55 lead entering the final frame.

ONU connected on 16 threes in 47 attempts while SAU was just 4-of-21 from beyond the arc. The Bees also surrendered 20 offensive boards, allowing the Tigers to score 20 second-chance points.

St. Ambrose (4-12, 4-7 CCAC) limited Olivet Nazarene to 34-percent shooting from the floor while shooting better than 43 percent themselves. But the Bees could have shot better, missing several hurried, open looks against the Tigers full-court pressure, which forced 26 turnovers.

SAU trailed just 48-44 after a Kashell Daughty 3-pointer three minutes into the third quarter. However, Olivet would score the next eight points as St. Ambrose missed its next four shots from the floor, including three at the rim, and a pair of free throws. Minutes later, the Tigers broke things open by scoring seven of the final nine points in the third to grab their 14-point lead. The Bees didn't get the margin under double figures in the fourth.

Daughty led St. Ambrose with 22 points. She was 9-of-13 from the floor. Abby Wolter recorded 15 points and seven rebounds in the opening half en route to finishing with 21 and nine. Caitlyn Thole registered another double-double on the season with 16 points and 11 boards.

Elly Doe and Aryelle King each scored four points. Kaitlyn Brunson netted two. King came down with eight rebounds while Wolter handed out a game-high five assists.

SAU will host Holy Cross Saturday.
