St. Ambrose falls at Roosevelt

Roosevelt used a third-quarter run to pull away for an 85-49 win over St. Ambrose Wednesday night in Chicago.

SAU, which had trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half, was down 39-26 early in the third quarter. Abby Wolter and Caitlyn Thole combined for all the Bee points in a 5-1 run that gave the Bees life by cutting the deficit to single figures at 40-31.

But Roosevelt (6-9, 4-3 CCAC) scored the next 10 points as part of a larger 20-6 spurt to close the quarter as the Lakers opened up a 60-37 lead. The Bees committed seven of their 20 turnovers in the third quarter.

SAU (2-10, 2-5 CCAC) didn't threaten in the final frame.

The Bees shot less than 40 percent from the floor for the game while the Lakers converted at a 45-percent clip. Roosevelt also knocked down 13 3-pointers, while St. Ambrose was just 3-of-13 from beyond the arc.

RU also scored 26 points off the 20 SAU turnovers and outscored St. Ambrose 11-0 on second-chance points.

Wolter led the Bees with 17 points and seven rebounds. Thole finished with eight points and seven boards.

Payton Calouette scored seven points, Elly Doe had six and Kashell Daughty netted five. Aryelle King, Elly Holubar, Allie Govert and Kaitlyn Brunson also scored in the loss.

St. Ambrose will return home to host Indiana South Bend Saturday.
