SAU unable to keep up with up-tempo Tigers

A young St. Ambrose team ran into a hot-shooting Olivet Nazarene squad Wednesday night. The Tigers opened the game on a 10-0 run and never looked back in defeating the Bees 105-71 in Bourbonnais, Ill.

Olivet Nazarene (2-5, 1-1 CCAC) connected on four of its first six looks from the floor, including a pair of 3-pointers, while St. Ambrose started 0-for-5 with three turnovers. Abby Wolter finally got the Bees on the board three minutes in, but by then SAU was already facing a 10-2 deficit.

ONU hit five threes in the opening quarter in building a 31-18 lead. The Tigers tacked on 32 more points in the second quarter in extending the lead to 63-30 at the half. Facing the Olivet pressure, St. Ambrose committed 20 turnovers in the opening half.

The Bees were much better in the second half, playing the Tigers even over the final 20 minutes.

Turnovers proved to be the difference as St. Ambrose committed 37 leading to 39 Tiger points.

ONU finished with 15 triples while SAU was just 3-of-12 from beyond the arc. St. Ambrose also struggled from the line, connecting on just 10-of-21 free throws.

Wolter led the Bees with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Caitlyn Thole scored 13 to go along with eight boards and five assists, and Aryelle King scored 12.

Elly Doe came off the bench to hit all three of her 3-point attempts in finishing with nine points. Kashell Daughty dropped in seven points, Caroline Cool scored four, and Andie Burch and Elly Holubar each netted two.

St. Ambrose, now 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the CCAC, will visit Holy Cross Saturday.
