St. Ambrose falls at Missouri Baptist

St. Ambrose couldn't recover from a slow start in falling to 0-2 on the year after an 88-51 loss at Missouri Baptist Wednesday night.

Kashell Daughty gave the Bees a quick 3-0 lead with a 3-pointer in the game's opening minute. But that proved to be one of only two field goals in the quarter for SAU. Abby Wolter's layup cut the deficit to 8-5 but St. Ambrose would go scoreless over the final six minutes of the period.

In all, the Bees shot just 2-of-19 from the field in trailing 22-5 after the first quarter.

SAU came out strong in the second, using a jumper from Wolter and another three from Daughty to get within 22-10. A three from Liz Fish put the Bees down 26-13 but Missouri Baptist outscored St. Ambrose 18-4 the rest of the quarter to lead 44-17 at the half.

The Bees struggled offensively all night, shooting just 20-of-62 (.323) from the floor and 5-of-21 (.238) from beyond the arc. SAU also made just 6-of-16 from the line, hitting at a 37.5-percent clip. MBU shot better than 51 percent from the floor, including a 9-of-21 effort (.429) from beyond the arc.

Wolter led St. Ambrose with 19 points. Daughty also hit double figures, dropping in 10. Fish scored seven points while Elly Doe knocked down two triples to score six. Payton Calouette finished with four points, Caitlyn Thole and Aryelle King each had two and Elly Holubar added a point in the loss. Holubar grabbed a team-best six rebounds. King handed out four assists.

SAU will open conference play by hosting St. Francis (Ill.) on Nov. 21. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
