Saints pull away in second half to defeat Bees

St. Ambrose couldn't get anything to go its way in the third quarter at Holy Cross Saturday. And the Saints took advantage to pull away for an 81-62 win.

Trailing just 36-35 at the half, the Bees endured a 3-for-9 performance from the floor in the third period. Holy Cross (15-12, 10-9 CCAC) shot 12-of-20 from the field in the frame. That, and an 11-3 rebounding advantage, which included five Holy Cross offensive boards, allowed the Saints to open up a 62-47 lead. The Bees didn't threaten in the fourth.

St. Ambrose (16-10, 12-6 CCAC) shot at a better clip that Holy Cross (.467 to .432) but thanks to a 43-30 rebounding edge and forcing 24 turnovers, the Saints (32-of-74) attempted 29 more field goal attempts than the Bees (21-of-45).

HC turned those 24 SAU turnovers into 24 points. The Bees scored 10 points off 12 Saint turnovers.

Four Bees scored in double figures led by Caitlyn Thole's 13 points. Jaynee Prestegaard scored 12 points while Anna Plumer and Abby Wolter each netted 10.

Erica Bostwick came off the bench to drop in six points. Halle Ciesielczyk and Kaitlyn Brunson each scored four.

The schedule doesn't get any easier as St. Ambrose will visit St. Francis next Wednesday.
