Senior Day victory for SAU

St. Ambrose recognized four seniors - Halle Ciesielczyk, Abby Lundquist, Anna Plumer, and Jaynee Prestegaard - Saturday afternoon against Judson University. The Bees got the win against the Eagles, 71-62, inside Lee Lohman Arena.

Prestegaard and Abby Wolter posted double-doubles, and Plumer went 5-8 from three to power SAU to victory.

Up 33-24 at the half, Judson cut into St. Ambrose's lead with an 8-2 run to begin the third quarter. But the Bees answered with a Prestegaard layup, and Kaitlyn Brunson hit a three to make the lead eight with 6:46 left in the quarter. Wolter scored a layup late to push the lead to 12, but two free throws by the Eagles made it a 10-point game heading into the final frame.

After a Judson basket to start the fourth quarter, Brunson and Caitlyn Thole hit back-to-back three-pointers to give SAU their largest lead of the game at 56-42 with 8:45 remaining. Judson would make it a seven-point game with just over a minute remaining, but Brunson and Wolter hit free throws to close out the game.

St. Ambrose raced out to an early 8-2 lead with buckets from Prestegaard, Wolter, and Thole. The Bees went on a 5-0 run to end the quarter to take an 18-6 lead heading into the second.

SAU shot 50 percent from behind the arc in the second quarter with Plumer hitting both of her attempts, and Allie Govert converting her attempt her help St. Ambrose to a nine-point halftime lead.

Prestegaard scored 17 points with 12 rebounds, nine of which were on the offensive end. Wolter had 14 points, 12 boards, and tied for a game-high seven assists. Plumer also had seven assists to go with 15 points. Brunson chipped in eight points and five rebounds. Thole came off the bench to add seven points and seven rebounds. Caroline Cool and Govert added five points each.

St. Ambrose will return home on Wednesday, February 8th to face College of the Ozarks at 5:30 p.m.
