Bees waste little time in running past Crimson Wave

St. Ambrose made five of its first six shots in racing out to an 11-0 lead in an eventual 88-45 win at Calumet St. Joseph Saturday afternoon. Four players finished in double figures as SAU moved to 15-7 overall and 11-4 in the CCAC this season.

The fast start was a sign of things to come.

The Bees shot 12-of-17 from the floor in the first quarter in claiming a 26-8 lead. Calumet (0-16, 0-15 CCAC) shot just 3-of-15 from the field over the first 10 minutes.

And while SAU's shooting cooled slightly in the second quarter, the Bees maintained complete control, outscoring the Wave 22-9 to take a 48-17 lead at the half.

The margin grew to 73-30 after three quarters as St. Ambrose coasted in the second half.

SAU finished 36-of-66 from the floor, good for 54.5 percent. Calumet shot just 18-of-64 (28.1 percent). The Bees also knocked down seven 3-pointers, claimed a 49-32 edge on the boards, and turned 18 CCSJ turnovers into 23 points.

Abby Wolter led St. Ambrose with 16 points. She was 8-of-11 from the field. Jaynee Prestegaard posted another double-double, this one consisting of 11 points and 13 rebounds. Erica Bostwick came off the bench to score 11 points in just six minutes. Caitlyn Thole netted 10.

All 12 Bees ended up in the scoring column. Kaitlyn Brunson and Olivia Harter each scored seven points, Allie Govert and Rylee Pfoutz dropped in six apiece, Anna Plumer scored five, Halle Ciesielczyk had four, Caroline Cool ended with three and Elly Holubar added two.

SAU will return home to host Saint Xavier Wednesday.
