Prestegaard reaches milestone in win at Cardinal Stritch

Already tying a pair of single-game school records this season, Jaynee Prestegaard reached a career milestone Wednesday. The senior forward, who matched school records for field goals made without a miss and blocked shots in a game, netted her 1,000th career point in the Bees' 63-49 victory at Cardinal Stritch. She is the 35th player in program history to hit the mark.

Needing 13 points entering the contest, Prestegaard got what she needed in the first half. Her basket in the final minute provided her 1,000th point and gave SAU a 33-22 lead.

That basket capped a quarter that saw the Bees harrass the Wolves into a 3-of-21 performance from the floor. It was more of the same in the third. Cardinal Stritch (4-18, 4-11 CCAC) shot just 3-of-18 in the quarter allowing St. Ambrose to build a 48-28 lead.

The margin grew to as large as 22 points midway through the fourth before the Wolves made a late run to cut the final gap to 14 points.

The Wolves shot just 30.6 percent for the game, and that came after shooting better than 58 percent from the field in the fourth quarter after the game had already been decided. SAU also did not allow CSU to try a single free throw in the game.

The Bees shot nearly 46 percent despite hitting only 2-of-11 attempts from beyond the arc.

Prestegaard led all scorers with 17 points. She also pulled down eight rebounds.

Abby Wolter finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Caitlyn Thole posted a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Allie Govert came off the bench to add seven points. Anna Plumer scored six, Halle Ciesielczyk had four, Olivia Harter netted three and Kaitlyn Brunson finished with two points.

SAU, now 14-7 overall and 10-4 in the CCAC, will visit Calumet Saturday.
