Four score in double figures in win over Lakers

Jaynee Prestegaard led four players in double figures as St. Ambrose rolled to an 85-74 win at Roosevelt Saturday afternoon.

Prestegaard scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting. She had plenty of help.

Anna Plumer knocked down four 3-pointers on her way to 17 points. Abby Wolter was 6-of-7 from the floor in dropping in 16. And Mel Stewart was an efficient 5-of-8 from the field in netting 13.

Prestegaard broke a 2-2 tie early in the game with a three-point play and the Bees never looked back. Leading 14-9 late in the first quarter, St. Ambrose went on a 13-0 run to take control. Caitlyn Thole's two free throws ended the spurt that gave SAU a 27-9 lead midway through the second period.

The Bees outscored the Lakers 23-7 in the quarter to open up a 40-16 lead at the half.

St. Ambrose (12-6, 8-3 CCAC) was never challenged in the second half. Roosevelt (6-10, 4-7 CCAC) put together a 43-point fourth quarter after the game was long decided to make the score respectable.

As a team, St. Ambrose shot 50 percent from the floor. Roosevelt shot 39.4 percent but connected on just 23.3 percent of its shots in the first half before padding that number late.

The Bees also pulled down a 45-31 advantage on the boards.

Behind the four in double figures, Olivia Cantu came off the bench to add seven points. Thole finished with six and Caroline Cool scored three.

Stewart and Cantu shared game-high honors with nine rebounds apiece. Plumer handed out seven assists as the Bees assisted on 25 of their 31 made field goals.

SAU will return home to host Indiana Northwest Wednesday.
