SAU cruises to 67-36 win over Trinity Christian

Jaynee Prestegaard and Abby Wolter posted double-doubles and three other Bees scored in double figures as St. Ambrose ran past Trinity Christian 67-36 Thursday night in Lee Lohman Arena.

Two days after holding Governors State to three points in the first quarter, SAU limited Trinity Christian to two points in the opening frame. The Trolls followed Prestegaard's opening basket with one of their own before proceeding to miss their next 11 shots to close the quarter. Wolter (six points), Prestegaard (four) and Caitlyn Thole (four) combined for all the Bee points as they opened up a 14-2 lead.

The defensive start was a sign of things to come.

Trinity Christian (6-9, 3-5 CCAC) never shot better than the 28.6 percent mark they hit in the third quarter, a period in which they were still outscored 19-10. The Trolls finished at 23.4 percent (15-of-64) for the game. TCC was just 1-of-20 from beyond the arc.

SAU (11-5, 7-2 CCAC) upped its lead to 30-10 at the half and 49-20 after three.

With Prestegaard grabbing a career-best 16 rebounds and Wolter pulling down 11, St. Ambrose also outrebounded Trinity Christian 52-38.

Ten different Bees scored in the win.

Thole led the way with 14 points. Prestegaard and Anna Plumer, who knocked down three triples, each scored 11. Wolter and Kaitlyn Brunson netted 10 apiece.

Olivia Harter finished 5-of-6 from the line in scoring five points. Allie Govert dropped in three, and Elly Holubar, Maggie McDonald and Olivia Cantu each scored a single point.

St. Ambrose, off to a 9-0 start at home, will host conference rival Olivet Nazarene next Wednesday.
