Prestegaard leads Bees to second straight big win

Behind 23 points and 12 rebounds from Jaynee Prestegaard, St. Ambrose rolled to its second big win of the week, an 84-49 home win over Trinity International Saturday night.

Prestegaard finished 9-of-12 from the floor in leading the Bees to a dominating 48-22 edge in points in the paint.

SAU also forced 30 TIU turnovers, and took advantage, scoring 35 points off those turnovers.

St. Ambrose got off to a fast start, scoring the game's first eight point, but it was the second quarter that allowed the Bees to pull away. Leading just 17-13 entering the second, St. Ambrose outscored Trinity International 23-6 in the frame. Abby Wolter scored seven points and Prestegaard netted six in the quarter. And while the Bees shot 10-of-19 from the field in the second, the Trojans (2-9, 1-5 CCAC) hit just 2-of-13 shots and committed eight turnovers.

The victory, coming on the heels of an 81-40 win over Calumet Wednesday, evened St. Ambrose's record at 4-4 overall. The Bees are 3-2 in the CCAC.

Wolter finished with 14 points and Olivia Cantu came off the bench to score 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting to give the Bees three players in double figures.

Mel Stewart and Caitlyn Thole each netted nine points and Anna Plumer scored seven. Olivia Harter scored four points, and Allie Govert, Caroline Cool, Kaitlyn Brunson and Maggie McDonald each had two.

St. Ambrose will step out of conference play to next host Haskell Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
