Bees return to post big win over Crimson Wave

Back on the court for the first time in two weeks, St. Ambrose coasted to an 81-40 home win over Calumet St. Joseph Wednesday night.

The Bees shot better than 52 percent from the floor, hit 9-of-21 from beyond the arc, and nearly doubled the Crimson Wave on the boards (43-22) in improving to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the CCAC.

SAU set the tone early, hitting 12-of-20 from the field in building a 25-4 lead after one quarter. After limiting to Calumet (0-5) to 2-of-13 shooting in the opening frame, St. Ambrose was even better in the second quarter as the Wave misfired on all nine field goal attempts and scored just a single point as the Bees built a 39-5 halftime advantage.

The big lead allowed 16 different Bees to see multiple minutes, and 13 ended up in the scoring column.

Jaynee Prestegaard and Abby Wolter led the way, each scoring 14 points on a combined 13-of-19 effort from the floor. Prestegaard hauled in 10 rebounds and blocked three shots while Wolter grabbed five boards and collected two steals.

Anna Plumer also reached double figures, hitting 4-of-7 3-point tries in scoring 12 points.

Caitlyn Thole led the reserves with seven points. Olivia Cantu, Olivia Harter and Rylee Pfoutz each scored six. Caroline Cool had four points and a team-best five assists. Maggie McDonald also scored four. Mel Stewart, Allie Govert, Kaitlyn Brunson and Halle Ciesielczyk each netted two points. Abby Lundquist handed out four assists in the victory.

CCSJ shot just 31.5 percent from the floor and committed 25 turnovers, leading to 28 SAU points.

The Bees return to action Saturday at 6 p.m. when they host Trinity International.
