Wroblewski nets 1,000th career point as Bees win big

Kylie Wroblewski scored her 1,000th career point to help St. Ambrose to a convincing 83-39 home win over Calumet St. Joseph Saturday afternoon.

Needing 16 points entering the contest, Wroblewski reached the milestone midway through the third quarter. She took a pass from Maddy Cash, converted the layup to hit the mark and was fouled. Following a timeout to recognize the achievement, Wroblewski knocked down the ensuing free throw to give her 1,001 points in an SAU uniform.

Wroblewski, who has played in 62 games for St. Ambrose, is the 34th player to score 1,000 points in program history.

She was also one of 13 Bees to score in Saturday's win, finishing with those 17 points.

St. Ambrose took control in the first quarter. After allowing Calumet (0-16, 0-15 CCAC) to hit four of its first five shots from the field in a tie game at 8-8, the Bees completely shut down the Crimson Wave.

CCSJ would not score over the final 6:30 of the first quarter and would net just two total points in the second period.

SAU went on a 15-0 run to close out the first to take a 23-8 lead, and outscored Calumet 24-2 in the second. After the strong start, the Wave would connect on just 1 of their final 22 shots of the first half and found themselves in a 27-10 hole at the break.

The starters would hit the bench after Wroblewski's record-setting three-point play and the Bee reserves closed out the big win, the team's 16th victory in a row.

Shayne Smith scored nine points and Cash had eight. Five Bees - Anna PlumerJaynee PrestegaardAllie GovertMel Stewart and Madeline Prestegaard - each scored six.

Sarah Goldensoph and Olivia Cantu had five points apiece, Avari Everts dropped in four, Halle Ciesielczyk scored three and Abby Lundquist added two.

Wroblewski helped St. Ambrose to a 42-24 rebounding advantage by grabbing eight. Everts and Madeline Prestegaard had five each, and Cash, Jaynee Prestegaard and Lundquist each pulled down four boards. Plumer was credited with a game-high six assists.

The Bees finished at nearly 57 percent from the floor (33-of-58) while the Wave shot at a 31.6-percent clip (18-of-57). Calumet was 0-of-7 from beyond the arc and committed 20 turnovers.

The victory sets up a showdown next Wednesday of conference leaders when St. Ambrose (22-1, 15-1 CCAC) visits No. 20 Saint Xavier (16-5, 14-1 CCAC). That game will tip off at 5 p.m. in Chicago.
