Wroblewski scores 33 as Bees run past Tigers 109-100

Kylie Wroblewski led five Bees in double figures with a career-best 33 points as St. Ambrose exploded for a 109-100 win at Olivet Nazarene Wednesday night.

Normally playing a methodical style this season, relying on its posts, SAU (18-1, 11-1 CCAC) took advantage of what ONU allowed, and scored the most points in a game by a Bees team since the 2013-14 squad defeated Peru State 109-82.

Wednesday's victory was also St. Ambrose's 12th in a row, extending the program's longest winning streak since that same 2013-14 team won 20 straight.

Wroblewski scored 33 on 14-of-17 shooting, and she had plenty of help.

Jaynee Prestegaard and Maddy Cash combined for 17 points in the fourth quarter and Anna Plumer threw in a long desperation 3-pointer with the shot clock running down in the final minutes to hold off the Tigers.

Plumer's three extended the SAU lead to 95-88 with just inside three minutes to go. From there, 12 of the team's final 14 points came from the line. The only Bee basket down the stretch was a Wroblewski layup that extended the lead to 99-92 after the Tigers once again got within five points.

Cash was a perfect 6-for-6 from the line in the closing three minutes, and Wroblewski and Shayne Smith each went 3-for-4 to seal the win.

That capped a 27-of-32 (84.4 percent) performance from the line in an overall strong shooting night for St. Ambrose. The Bees shot at a better than 67-percent clip from the field (39-of-58) and hit 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, with all those 3-point attempts coming from Plumer.

Olivet Nazarene (10-8, 7-4 CCAC) shot 37 percent overall and the Tigers' 16 threes in 44 attempts weren't enough to stop St. Ambrose from sweeping the regular-season series.

In a game that featured 12 ties and nine lead changes, ONU never held a lead of more than four points. Much of that can be contributed to Wroblewski, who scored 22 of her points over the second and third quarters. Along with the 33 points, she added seven rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.

Prestegaard notched another double-double, finishing with 19 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Plumer, Cash and Smith each netted 14 points. Plumer grabbed six boards and dished out nine assists.

Madeline Prestegaard came off the bench to add eight points and six rebounds to the victory. Abby Lundquist scored five points and Olivia Cantu added two.

St. Ambrose, one of three CCAC teams with just a single conference loss, will play its first home game in more than two weeks when the Bees host Roosevelt Saturday. Tip-off at Lee Lohman Arena is scheduled for 1 p.m.
