St. Ambrose moves to 3-0 with win at Mount Mercy

Playing on the road for the first time this season didn't seem to phase St. Ambrose.

The Bees shot better than 49 percent from the floor in defeating Mount Mercy 76-59 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Saturday night. It was SAU's second win over Mount Mercy in three games this year.

And much like the earlier 70-56 win, St. Ambrose led nearly wire to wire Saturday.

Mount Mercy (0-3) trailed 19-12 after the first quarter but opened the second with the first four points to get within 19-16. SAU made sure that was as close as they would get.

Madeline Prestegaard scored and then back-to-back Mustang turnovers led to a basket from Kylie Wroblewski and an Anna Plumer 3-pointer to extend the lead to 26-16. Wroblewski later added another basket to cap a 9-0 run that built a 28-16 lead. St. Ambrose led by at least seven points the rest of the way.

Wroblewski paced the Bees with 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Plumer came off the bench to score 16 points. She was 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Jaynee Prestegaard netted 13 to give the team three players in double figures.

Madeline Prestegaard and Maddy Cash each scored nine points. Shayne Smith dropped in eight points and matched Wroblewski with eight rebounds while Sarah Goldensoph scored four.

As a team, the Bees shot 49.1 percent from the floor. That included a 7-of-17 performance on 3-point attempts. SAU also connected on 13-of-15 from the line in the win.

Defensively, St. Ambrose limited Mount Mercy to less than 38 percent shooting from the floor, including a 25-percent clip from 3-point range. The Mustangs only shot better than 40 percent in the fourth quarter, which the Bees entered with a 14-point advantage.

Led by Wroblewski, Smith and Jaynee Prestegaard (seven rebounds), SAU finished with a 42-28 rebounding edge.

St. Ambrose will return home to host Judson Wednesday. The CCAC contest will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
