SAU moves to 3-0 with big win at Graceland

Kylie Wroblewski finished with game highs of 24 points and 14 rebounds, and Jamie Martens, Madeline Prestegaard and Jaynee Prestegaard combined to make 16-of-18 shots from the field as St. Ambrose improved to 3-0 with an 88-53 win at Graceland Saturday afternoon.

The Bees shot 54.1 percent from the floor in a game in which they never trailed.

An Anna Plumer 3-pointer opened the scoring and SAU built a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter. The lead ballooned to as many as 21 points in the second.

Graceland (1-5) tried to get back into the game in the third quarter, closing to within 16 points with just over three minutes left in the frame. But four straight points from Wroblewski and a Maddy Cash 3-pointer restored a 23-point lead. After a Graceland free throw, Presley Case scored in the paint and Plumer ended the quarter, and a 10-1 run, with a free throw for a 69-44 advantage entering the fourth.

Baskets from Cash and Martens opened the final period as the Bees cruised to their third straight win.

Wroblewski did most of her damage early, scoring 10 points and grabbing five rebounds in the first quarter.

Martens dropped in 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting and handed out a game-high eight assists. Madeline Prestegaard was a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor in scoring 12 points. Cash and Case each chipped in with nine points and Jaynee Prestegaard was 4-of-5 from the field in adding eight points.

St. Ambrose is shooting nearly 55 percent from the field through three games, and still relying on its traditional stingy defense. The Bees limited the Yellowjackets to 37-percent shooting, including a 27.3-percent mark in the second half. SAU forced 20 turnovers and also finished with a 38-29 rebounding advantage.

The Bees will visit Harris-Stowe State next Friday, looking for their first 4-0 start in a season since the 2010-2011 campaign.
