Bio

Maddy Matthys joined the St. Ambrose staff in the January of 2023. She has been an assistant coach at Bettendorf High School since 2017.

Matthys is a native of Davenport, Iowa, where she attended Davenport Assumption. While in high school, Matthys was a four-time all-conference selection playing both outfield and shortstop throughout her career. She then continued her career at Southeastern Community College, where she was named an all-conference outfielder.

After her freshman year, Matthys transferred to University of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M., where she pursued a degree in Pre-Med Biology. There she accumulated many accolades as a shortstop including a career .911 fielding percentage while also posting a top-five national ranking in assists per game her senior year. She also was top 15 nationally in triples that same year. Matthys finished her career with two top-three school records in career (34) and single season (17) double plays turned. She was awarded Athlete of the Year for University of the Southwest following her senior campaign.

Post graduation, Matthys received a Master’s degree in Human Health and Performance from University of the Southwest while contributing as a graduate assistant for the track and field team.
