Bees split home finale

Bees split home finale

The St. Ambrose softball team split a pair of games with Calumet College of  St. Joseph Monday afternoon at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.

In the first game, the Bees jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Becca Haag opened the scoring on a sacrifice fly, scoring Shai Erdrich. Erica Ralfs added another for the Bees, scoring Reagan Engberg on an RBI single. Alyssa Schumacher would then come around to score on a fielder's choice by Mackenzie Stiewe

The Bees would add four more runs in the following inning. SAU would tally three run-scoring extra base hits in this inning. Haag got things started with an RBI double that scored Taylor Martyn. Haag would then come around to score on an RBI single by Paige Kirkman. Kirkman would score on an RBI double by Schumacher, and Schumacher scored on an RBI triple by Ralfs.

This would be more than enough run support for the Bees pitching staff. Emilee Erickson threw five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five. Annebelle Krull threw two innings in relief, allowing no hits. St. Ambrose would take game one, 7-0.

In the second game, due to some timely hitting and a couple of errors from the Bees, the Crimson Wave jumped out to a 10-0 lead. St. Ambrose would make a comeback that would fall just a little bit short.

Ralfs reached on a throwing error to give SAU a run. The Bees would add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Eleanor Flores provided an RBI double that scored two runs, and Laurel Politsch had a groundout that scored one more. In the bottom of the second, Engberg stole second and Mya Millsaps scored on a throwing error by the catcher. The Crimson Wave won the eventual final 10-5.

The Bees are in action next when they travel to Indiana South Bend in a CCAC showdown on Saturday, April 27. The first game of the double header is slated to start at 1 p.m. CST.
