Ralfs helps Bees in game suspended after eight innings

Updated Apr. 23: In a game completed on Apr. 23, the Bees scored four times in the top of the 12th to earn a 5-1 win. Tied at 1-1 after eight when the game was originally suspended, both teams had chances in extra innings. SAU's Kylee Claypool was thrown out at the plate in the top of the ninth. The Trolls stranded two runners in the 10th and came away empty after loading the bases with one out in the 11th. Finally, in the 12th, the Bees got back on the board. Becca Haag and Erica Ralfs singled before Mady Reed broke the tie with a single to left. Alyssa Schumacher followed with a double to bring in Ralfs. Mackenzie Stiewe capped the scoring with a two-run single. TCC was retired in order in the bottom of the frame. Ralfs earned the complete-game victory, striking out seven over the 12 innings.

A strong pitching performance from Erica Ralfs has St. Ambrose locked in a 1-1 tie with Trinity Christian in a game suspended due to darkness after eight innings. The Trolls won the opener 6-2.

Ralfs scattered six hits over the eight innings. She struck out six and allowed just one run, that coming in the bottom of the fifth to knot the score at 1-1. Ralfs also accounted for the Bee run, hitting a single to lead off the second, moving to second as Mady Reed was walked, and scoring on Alyssa Schumacher's double to left.

Outside of that inning, the Bees managed just one other hit. Shai Erdrich led off the game with a single and promptly stole second. She moved to third on a wild pitch, but after Becca Haag walked, Erdrich was caught stealing home.

Ralfs was able to pitch out of trouble in the final two innings. In the seventh, Trinity Christian (19-19, 6-3 CCAC) had runners on first and second with two outs before Ralfs got a strikeout to end the threat. An inning later, TCC had runners on second and third with two outs. But again Ralfs got a big strikeout before the game was suspended.

St. Ambrose (15-22, 4-5 CCAC) scored early in the opener, taking a 1-0 lead on Haag's sacrifice fly that scored Erdrich. TCC scored twice in the bottom of the first before Ralfs tied the game at 2-2 with a solo home run to left in the second.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth when the Trolls pushed across four runs on five hits to escape with the win.

Paige Kirkman finished 3-for-3 at the plate. Emilee Erickson was charged with the loss.

SAU is scheduled to host Calumet Thursday.
