Bees earn sweep over Tigers

Thanks to two stellar pitching performances, the St. Ambrose softball team earned two conference wins over Olivet Nazarene Wednesday afternoon at St. Vincent's. With these wins, the Bees improved to 14-20 overall and 3-3 in CCAC play.

In game one, the Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. It did not take long for the Bees to respond as they were able to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Taylor Martyn reached first base with a bunt single, and Becca Haag brought her in to score on an RBI double.

In the bottom of the third inning, Alyssa Schumacher laid down a sacrifice bunt allowing Haag to score to put SAU in front 2-1. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Reagan Engberg singled in Mya Millsaps to extend the Bees lead to 3-1. That would prove to be plenty of run support for the Bees as they earned the 3-1 victory. Emilee Erickson threw a complete game, allowing just four hits.

In game two, Shai Erdrich came around to score on a throwing error to give the Bees a 1-0 advantage in the first inning.

The Bees would add another run in the bottom of the second inning. Mady Reed scored Millsaps on an RBI groundout. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bees would add three more runs. Erdrich scored on another error, Erica Ralfs singled in Martyn, and Laurel Politsch singled in Haag.

This would be all the run support the Bees would need, earning a 5-1 win. Ralfs threw a complete game, allowing just six hits and striking out five.

The Bees are next in action this Saturday. when they travel to Chicago to face Saint Xavier in a doubleheader. Game one is slated for 12 p.m. with game two to follow.
