Late runs sink St. Ambrose

A two-run sixth inning kept St. Ambrose from earning a victory as Southeastern (Fla.) rallied for a 2-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader in Lakeland, Fla., Monday afternoon.

A Mady Reed sacrifice fly in the third inning scored Mya Millsaps to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. Behind the pitching of Leah Maro, that lead held up into the sixth.

A single and a one-out double tied the game at 1-1 before an SAU error allowed the go-ahead run to score. The Bees came up empty in the top of the seventh as the Fire closed out the win.

Shai Erdrich and Paige Kirkman each had two hits for St. Ambrose. Reed had the other Bee hit.

Maro worked all six innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run in picking up the tough-luck loss. She struck out a pair.

SAU managed just three hits in an 8-0 five-inning loss in the opener. Taylor Martyn and Erdrich had back-to-back one-out singles in the third, and Erica Ralfs followed a Becca Haag walk in the fourth with a base hit to center for the three Bee hits.

Southeastern (21-10) scored two runs in the first before putting up a six-spot in the fourth.

Emilee Erickson was charged with the loss after working 3 1/3 innings. Annebelle Krull recorded the final two outs.

St. Ambrose (11-13) will continue its Spring Break trip with a doubleheader at Webber International Tuesday.
