Bees drop doubleheader to Grand View

The St. Ambrose softball team played host to Grand View in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.

In game one, the Bees jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Taylor Martyn singled in Becca Haag and Reagan Engberg scored on a throwing error to give the Bees the early advantage. After GVU scored one run in the top of the third, the Bees responded. Shai Erdrich singled in Kylee Claypool while Alyssa Schumacher singled in Mya Millsaps. Haag singled in Schumacher and Mady Reed, giving the Bees a 6-1 lead. Grand View would come back to win the game 9-6 in eight innings. Erica Ralfs pitched four innings, surrendering just one earned run in the process. Cara Linnenkamp and Leah Maro each pitched two innings for the Bees as well.

In the second game, the Vikings jumped out to an early lead, but the Bees were able to respond with a couple runs of their own. Haag hit a line-drive double off the wall to score Erdrich, and Haag scored on a Paige Kirkman RBI groundout. Annebelle Krull threw three scoreless innings and Chloe Mitchell threw two scoreless innings. Grand View went on to win the second game by a score of 5-2.

The Bees are next in action when they take on the University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday, Mar. 16, in Melbourne, Fla.
