St. Ambrose offense comes to life in Friends Tournament finale

Seven different Bees had at least one hit as St. Ambrose exploded for a season-best 10 runs in a 10-0 five-inning win over Peru State to close play at the Friends Tournament in Wichita, Kan., Saturday.

Shai Erdrich, Alyssa Schumacher, Taylor Martyn and Kylee Claypool each collected two of SAU's 11 total hits.

The Bees scored seven runs in the first inning. A sacrifice bunt from Reagan Engberg scored Erdrich to start the scoring. Erica Ralfs ripped an RBI double. Martyn drew a bases-loaded walk. Claypool cleared the bases with a three-run triple. And Erdrich ended the early scoring with an infield hit that scored Claypool.

The final three St. Ambrose runs came in the third. Mady Reed tripled and came around to score on a Peru State error. Erdrich had an RBI groundout and Schumacher singled in Claypool to end the onslaught.

Mya Millsaps also picked up a hit in the victory.

It added up to more than enough support for Annebelle Krull. Krull allowed just five hits and struck out four in getting the shutout win.

The victory followed an 8-1 loss to Mayville State that saw St. Ambrose get charged with eight errors. The Comets pushed across two runs in the first, and after Brooke Baker's ground out brought in Reed to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fifth, Mayville State broke things open with five runs in the bottom of the frame. The Comets tacked on a final run in the sixth.

Erdirch finished with two of the Bees' five hits. Reed, Paige Kirkman and Liz Garcia had the others.

Ralfs was charged with the loss after pitching the first four innings. Chloe Mitchell and Krull each pitched a single inning in relief.

St. Ambrose (9-7) will visit Augustana next Saturday.
