Late rally helps SAU earns split at Cardinal Stritch

St. Ambrose scored five runs over the final three innings to salvage a split of a doubleheader at Cardinal Stritch Tuesday afternoon. The rally helped the Bees to a 5-4 win in the nightcap following a 6-1 loss in the opener.

Down 3-0, SAU finally got on the board in the fifth inning of the second game. Kaitlyn Sandora came in to score when Shai Erdrich reached on an error. An inning later, Maria Provenzano's base hit plated Cassie Sprout to cut the deficit to 3-2. Sandora scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to tie the game at 3-3.

The Bees completed their comeback in the seventh. Erdrich gave St. Ambrose the lead for good when she stole third and came in to score on a throwing error from the CSU catcher. Aleah Wight brought in Corinn Vega with what proved to be a much-needed insurance run on a sacrifice fly.

Alyia Oliver, who settled down after allowing three runs in the first inning, walked in a run in the bottom of the seventh, but then escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam. She got a strikeout, a force out at the plate on a ground ball and then a fly out to right to end the game.

Erdrich and Alyssa Schumacher each went 2-for-4, while Wight, Sandora, Provenzano and Kayla Stenger each had one hit.

Wight and Brittany Rabe each had two of SAU's six hits in the opener.

The Wolves broke a scoreless tie with a three-run third inning. They added two more in the fifth and another in the sixth. Rabe's second hit of the game, a single through the right side, scored Wight with the Bee's lone run in the top of the seventh.

Erica Ralfs was charged with the loss after allowing six hits and four earned runs over five innings. Provenzano surrendered one run in her inning of relief.

Schumacher and Sophia Delgado also collected hits in the loss.

The Bees, now 26-11 overall and 10-8 in the CCAC, will host No. 23 Saint Xavier in a doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m.
