Bees snap mini slide by sweeping Crimson Wave

St. Ambrose ended a brief three-game losing streak by sweeping a doubleheader at Calumet St. Joseph by scores of 5-2 and 6-2 Thursday afternoon.

Both games followed a similar script. The Bees built sizeable leads and held on as the Crimson Wave threatened in their final at bats.

In the opener, SAU struck early, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly from Olivia Wells and an RBI single from Kayla StengerBrittany Rabe doubled in a run in the sixth to up the lead to three runs. The Bees tacked on two more runs in the seventh. Alyssa Schumacher doubled in a run and Wells punched a single to center to score SAU's final run.

After allowing just three hits over six scoreless innings, Erica Ralfs lost her shutout when she surrendered a two-run home run in the seventh. Ralfs still earned the win after giving way to Alyia Oliver, who retired the three hitters she faced to earn the save.

Olivia McClintock led the Bees' 10-hit attack with a 3-for-4 performance. She scored a pair of runs. Stenger finished 2-for-3. Shai Erdrich and Aleah Wight also had hits in the win.

After closing out Game 1, Oliver came out in the second game and tossed six scoreless innings. She allowed just four hits in picking up the win.

The Bees got on the board first in the third. Grace Schmitz came in on a wild pitch to break the 0-0 tie. Later in the frame, Schumacher doubled in Cassie Sprout, and Wells brought in Schumacher with a single to right. McClintock ripped a two-run double to score Sophia Delgado and Corinn Vega in the fourth, before Maria Provenzano's RBI single in the fifth pushed the lead to 6-0.

Calumet scored twice in the seventh before Provenzano escaped a bases-loaded jam to end the game.

McClintock, Stenger, Schmitz and Delgado each had two hits in the nightcap.

St. Ambrose, now 25-8 overall and 9-5 in the CCAC, will face a busy weekend. The Bees will visit Roosevelt Saturday before returning home to host Indiana South Bend Sunday.
