Bees bounce back to sweep Eagles

A day after seeing their 15-game winning streak snapped, the Bees bounced back in a big way, taking a doubleheader from Judson by scores of 11-2 and 5-0 Sunday afternoon at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex.

St. Ambrose pounded out 19 total hits in improving to 22-5 overall and 6-2 in the CCAC.

Twelve of those came in the opener, which lasted just five innings.

After spotting the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, the Bees came right back in the bottom half of the inning. Cassie Sprout had an RBI triple to score Olivia McClintock before Kayla Stenger lifted a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Sprout to tie the game at 2-2.

It was the first of four RBIs in the game for Stenger. Her infield single in the third plated Kaitlyn Sandora to give SAU a 3-2 lead. Aleah Wight drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Maria Provenzano capped a four-run third with a two-run single.

Stenger brought in two more in the fourth with a triple to left before Alyia Oliver ended the scoring with a bases-clearing, three-run double, also in the fourth.

Sprout and Alyssa Schumacher each had three hits, while Stenger had two.

Oliver also earned the win with four innings of work. Provenzano retired the side in order in the fifth.

A day after suffering her first loss of the season, Erica Ralfs earned her 12th win of the year in the second game. She struck out eight over seven innings of four-hit work.

Ralfs received the only run she needed in the bottom of the first. McClintock, who set the Bees' single-season stolen base record in the opener, stole home to give St. Ambrose a fast 1-0 lead.

Bella Welton had an RBI single to score Sophia Delgado as part of a two-run fourth inning. Shai Erdrich scored on an error earlier in the frame.

Wight capped the scoring with a two-run home run in the sixth. It was the second of two hits in the game for Wight. McClintock also had two hits.

A busy stretch continues for the Bees as the team visits Trinity Christian Monday.
