SAU gets two more wins at second Dome Tournament

Erica Ralfs and Alyia Oliver combined on a one-hitter to lead St. Ambrose past Mount Marty 8-1 Saturday in the Ambrose Dome. It was one of two victories for the Bees at their second Dome Tournament.

While Ralfs and Oliver were shutting down the Lancers, the Bee bats exploded for 14 hits. Olivia McClintock was 4-for-4 and Aleah WightKayla Stenger and Sophia Delgado each had two hits.

Stenger's squeeze bunt gave SAU a 1-0 lead in the first before the Bees broke things open over the middle innings. Wight and Delgado each had two-run triples as St. Ambrose scored twice in the fourth, three times in the fifth and two more times in the sixth. Stenger also drove in a pair.

Ralfs got the win after striking out nine over 4 1/3 innings. Oliver recorded three strikeouts over the final 2 2/3 frames.

The St. Ambrose offense exploded in the final day of the two-day event to claim a 10-2 win in six innings over Waldorf.

With SAU playing as the visitors, McClintock got things started by tripling to center field, and when the center fielder bobbled the ball picking it up, she raced around to score. It was the first of four runs in the frame. Olivia Wells dropped down a squeeze bunt to score Shai ErdrichGrace Schmitz lined out to center to bring in Wells, and Wight scored on a wild pitch for a fast 4-0 lead.

The Warriors scratched out a single run in the bottom of the first before the Bees went back to work in the third. Wight had an RBI single before Delgado plated two with a triple to left. That increased the lead to 7-1.

Stenger added a run-scoring double in the fourth and Delgado dropped down a squeeze bunt in the fifth. Cassie Sprout brought in the final Bee run with an RBI groundout in the sixth.

Oliver earned the win with four innings of scoreless relief. Ralfs worked the first two innings.

St. Ambrose opened the weekend with a 3-0 loss to Mount Mercy. SAU managed just one hit, a one-out single off the bat of McClintock in the sixth inning. Mount Mercy scored once in the first inning and added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth.

Maria Provenzano was the hard-luck loser. She allowed just three hits and one run over four innings. Oliver worked the final three innings.

The Bees also lost their first game of the day Sunday, 10-2 to Mount Marty in five innings.

Provenzano tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first with a run-scoring single that brought home Erdrich. The Lancers pushed across two runs in the third before breaking things open with a six-run fourth. Kaylee King collected an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth before MMU closed out the win an inning later.

Oliver was tagged with the loss. Corinn Vega and Provenzano combined to throw the final two innings.

The Bees, now 6-3 on the year, aren't scheduled to play again until their Spring Break trip begins on Mar. 18 in Kissimmee, Fla.
