St. Ambrose takes doubleheader from Lincoln

The Bees pounded out 23 hits in sweeping a doubleheader at Lincoln College by scores of 8-1 and 6-3 Thursday afternoon.

St. Ambrose collected 14 of those hits in the first game, with Olivia McClintock and Erica Ralfs each picking up three. And it was that pair that staked the Bees to an early lead.

McClintock led off the third inning of a scoreless game with a single and promptly took second and stole third. Kayla Stenger followed with a sacrifice fly to center to plate McClintock. Colleen Barrett then walked and came around to score on a Ralfs triple to right to put SAU in front 2-0.

An inning later, McClintock's two-out single to right-center scored Jazzy Bowman, who singled earlier in the frame, to increase the margin to 3-0.

Lincoln got a run back in the bottom of the fifth. But in the sixth, St. Ambrose got it back. Alyssa Schumacher lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Shai Erdrich for a 4-1 lead.

The Bees broke it open in the seventh, putting together five hits to score four runs. Stenger, Allison Polly, Erdrich and Sophia Delgado had RBIs in the inning.

That was more than enough support for Alyia Oliver and Jane Thomas. Oliver got the win by allowing just three hits and one run over five innings. Thomas closed it out with a pair of strikeouts over two scoreless innings in relief.

SAU completed the sweep by scoring at least one run in five different innings.

Erdrich led the way with two hits. Stenger, Schumacher, Kaitlyn Sandora and McKenna Vrbovsky each knocked in a run. Aleah Wight scored two runs, while Erdrich, McClintock, Sandora and Cassie Sprout each scored once.

Ralfs earned the win by working the first four innings. Thomas again struck out two over two scoreless innings before Oliver wrapped it up by pitching the seventh.

The Bees, now 15-5 overall and 9-3 in the CCAC, will visit Roosevelt Saturday.
