Bees get split in doubleheader at Roosevelt

Erica Ralfs had a bases-clearing triple as part of a five-run first inning to help St. Ambrose earn a split of a doubleheader with an 8-5 win in the second game at Roosevelt Friday afternoon. The Bees dropped the opener 3-1.

Ralfs' triple followed RBIs from Allison Polly and Colleen Barrett. An inning later, Shai Erdrich led off with a triple of her own and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Polly.

After Roosevelt (15-3) pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, St. Ambrose struck back with two runs in the fourth. Kayla Stenger and Logan Frerichs had run-scoring hits to extend the lead to 8-2.

The Lakers tacked on a single run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to account for the final score.

Ralfs, Frerichs, Erdrich and Olivia McClintock each collected two hits as part of a 12-hit attack for the Bees.

Ralfs also earned the win by allowing two earned runs over five innings. Olivia Haas and Jane Thomas combined to work the final two frames.

In the opener, SAU managed just five hits in the 3-1 loss.

Stenger's home run leading off the top of the fourth inning tied the game at 1-1. But the Lakers took advantage of a Bee error to score a pair of runs in the sixth.

St. Ambrose put the tying runs on base in the seventh as Barrett started the frame with a single and Sophia Delgado drew a two-out walk. But Polly popped up in the infield to end the game.

Thomas took the loss in relief of Alyia Oliver. McClintock picked up two more hits in the loss.

The Bees, now 2-2 on the season, are next scheduled to play their home opener against Waldorf on Sunday, Mar. 21.
