Bees Compete in Blithe Memorial Duals

The St. Ambrose wrestling team continued their season Friday and Saturday at the Blithe Memorial Duals in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Bees earned two dual wins over the weekend.

In pool play, SAU dropped its opening dual to Wis.-Eau Claire 35-9. Steele Dias won by fall at 125 pounds and Guiseppe Guerra earned a 3-2 decision at 141 pounds for the Bee victories.

The Bees bounced back against Midway. The dual started at 125 pounds. Dias got the Bees off to a good start by earning a first period pin. Guerra and Reese Finch each earned victories by decision for the Bees at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively. At 174 pounds, Jayden Terronez won 24-9, earning a tech fall. Dylan Meiners won by a second period pin at 184 pounds, and Tyreese Johnson also got a second period pin at 197 pounds. The Bees won the dual by a score of 29-21.

SAU then faced Grand Valley State in the quarterfinals of the bracket. The Bees fell 30-15 with Dias and Guerra each pinning their opponents. Finch won 10-6.

St. Ambrose was able to once again bounce back, this time against Northwestern (Iowa). At 125 pounds, Dias gave the Bees an early 5-0 lead with an 18-1 tech fall. Guerra earned a tech fall of his own with a 15-0 win at 141 pounds. At 157 pounds, Riley Woods also won by tech fall, with a score of 17-2. At 165 and 174 pounds, Diego Machado and Terronez each won via pin. Machado secured his pin in the first period, and Terronez secured his in the second. The Bees won the dual 27-25.

SAU settled for sixth place after dropping its final two duals. The Bees lost a rematch to Wis.-Eau Claire 36-9, with Guerra (4-3) and Terronez (fall) earning wins. St. Ambrose then fell to Linberty 31-14 in the fifth-place match. Dias (10-3), Guerra (6-4), Machado (9-6 sudden victory) and Terronez (forfeit) won matches.

The Bees are in action next on Dec. 15 when they travel to Reno, Nev., for the Reno Tournament of Champions.
