Bees compete in Grand View Open

The St. Ambrose wrestling team continued their season on Saturday as they competed in the Grand View Open. The Bees were one of several teams to compete, and they had one place winner in the Open division as well as one place winner in the Freshman/Sophomore division.

In the Open division, Jayden Terronez reached the quarterfinals after a 16-0 tech fall in his opening match. After losing his quarterfinal, Terronez won two matches by pin in the consolation bracket to secure a sixth-place finish.

After losing his first match, Blake Dirksen was able to win two matches in the consolation bracket at 157 pounds. Steele Dias, Riley Woods, Diego Machado, Dylan Meiners, and Tyreese Johnson all secured match wins in the Open division for the Bees. Ariel Vega, Riece Graham, Isaac Martinez, Slade Dias, and Hunter Meyrer also competed for the Bees.

In the Freshman/Sophomore division, Guiseppe Guerra won two matches by decision and one match by major decision to reach the semifinals. After dropping a close 4-1 match in the semifinals, Guerra bounced back with 8-7 and 9-3 wins to take home third place. At 197 pounds, Tyler Casey secured four wins on the day, three of which came by pin. Jake Alexander, Dom Schiavone, Reese Finch, Josh Zeman, Jack Merlo and Jeremiah Morris each earned wins for the Bees. Ethan Blair, Hector Izaguirre, and Abdullah Razzak also competed for the Bees.

The Bees are next in action Tuesday when they travel to Lamoni, Iowa, for a dual against Graceland.
