Multiple Bees place at Luther Hill Invitational

St. Ambrose had multiple place winners at the Luther Hill Invitational on Saturday. The Bees had two place winners in the Open division and two place winners in the Freshman/Sophomore division.

In the Open division, Ariel Vega lost a close match 14-11 at 125 pounds before eventually finishing sixth. At 133 pounds, Riece Graham dropped his opening match 10-6 before finishing sixth as well. Noah Gonzalez, Hunter Meyrer, and Blake Dirksen also competed for the Bees in the Open Division.

In the Freshman/Sophomore division, Dom Schiavone reached the semifinals at 141 pounds. He won his opening match via tech fall by a score of 23-7. He won his quarterfinal match with another tech fall, winning 17-2. He ended up placing fifth.

At 149 pounds, Tate O'Shea won four matches. O'Shea dropped a close 5-1 decision in his first match. After dropping his opening match, he was able to bounce back and string some wins together in the consolation bracket. In his first two matches in the consolation bracket, he secured a pair of first-period pins. He was then able to win back-to-back matches by a score of 12-4 to secure sixth place. Cael Grell, Ethan Blair, Jack Merlo, and Hector Izaguirre also competed for the Bees.

On Friday, the Bees also competed against two NCAA Division I programs - Lindenwood and Northern Illinois. Against Lindenwood, Riley Woods pinned his opponent at 157 pounds. Jayden Terronez also earned a 11-4 decision win at 174 pounds.

The Bees are next in action Thursday when they take on Cornell in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
