Meiners takes first, four others in top three at Edmonds Open

Dylan Meiners took first place at 184 pounds and four other Bees placed in the top three at the Dave Edmonds Invitational in Sioux City, Iowa, Saturday.

Meiners rolled through his bracket. He pinned his first-round opponent in 1:49 before winning by disqualification in the quarterfinals. In his semifinal match, Meiners needed just 1:00 to win by fall. He won the title with a 5-2 decisioin over Iowa Western's Bruce Lukehart in the championship match.

Steele Dias was the runner-up at 125 pounds. He won his first two matches by fall before picking up a 6-2 decision in the semifinals. His run ended via injury default in the first-place match.

Diego Machado, Thade Gottschalk and Tyler Casey all finished in third place for St. Ambrose.

After pinning his first opponent in 3:54, Machado lost a tight 3-1 decision in the quarters at 157 pounds. He bounced back in a big way in the consolation bracket. He earned wins by tech fall 18-1, fall in 2:23, major decision 8-0 and fall in 5:46 to come all the way back for third. Gottschalk received a bye then a win by medical forfeit to reach the quarterfinals at 174 pounds. After a loss, he pinned his next two opponents in less than four combined minutes to reach the consolation semifinals. There, he slipped through with a 10-9 decision before winning the third-place match by no contest. Casey fell in the quarterfinals at 197 pounds before needing just over four minutes to pin his first two opponents in the consolation bracket. He secured third place with a 1-0 decision in his final bout of the day.

Jayden Terronez also advanced to the third-place match at 165 pounds. After wins by fall in 51 seconds and 1:14, Terronez dropped his semifinal match 4-2 in sudden-victory. He posted a 16-5 major decision in the consolation semifinals before bowing out with a medical forfeit. Riley Woods placed fifth at 141 pounds. He won an 8-6 decision and a 16-1 tech fall before posting a 15-10 decision in the fifth-place match.

Cael Grell and Chris Bridges each won a match for SAU. Grell earned a 13-8 decision at 157 pounds while Bridges pinned his opponent at 174 pounds in 1:36.

Mick Chagnon (125 pounds), Parker Terronez (149 pounds), Blake Dirksen (149 pounds), Slade Dias (157 pounds), Ethan Blair (165 pounds) and Jack Merlo (174 pounds) also competed for St. Ambrose.

The Bees return to action Wednesday when they host Graceland in the final home dual of the year.
