After dropping a 10-4 decision, Machado scored back-to-back pins, one in 1:36 and the other in 1:17 before falling in the sixth round of the consolation bracket.

Teammate AJ Johnson also reached the third round at 157 pounds. After pinning his first-round opponent in 1:16, Johnson earned a 7-5 decision in sudden victory to get to the third round. A loss sent him to the consolation draw, where a competitive 13-10 decision ended his run.
