SAU puts three in NAIA preseason rankings

NAIA preseason wrestling poll

With the official start of the season right around the corner, St. Ambrose received some national attention by placing three Bees in the individual rankings of the 2022-23 NAIA Wrestling Coaches' preseason poll.

Jayden Terronez, Mick Chagnon and Daniel Terronez were each ranked inside the top 25 in their respective weight classes in the poll released Thursday.

Jayden Terronez, a returning national qualifier, is the highest-ranked Bee, coming in at No. 13 at 165 pounds. He is the second-ranked wrestler in his weight class in the Heart of America preseason poll following a 2021-22 season that saw him reach the finals of the Heart Championships on his way to an NAIA Nationals bid.

Chagnon, SAU's second returning national qualifier, is ranked No. 20 at 125 pounds. He took third at last season's Heart Championships as part of a 15-win campaign. Chagnon is ranked third in the Heart preseason poll.

The final Bee to crack the top 25 is Daniel Terronez, who is No. 24 at 149 pounds. He transferred to St. Ambrose from Augustana.

Defending NAIA champion Grand View took the top spot in the preseason team poll. Life University, Southeastern, Marian (Ind.) and Indiana Tech round out the top five.

St. Ambrose will get its season underway on Nov. 6 at the Dan Harris Open in Baldwin City, Kan.
