SAU grabs two wins at Culver-Stockton

St. Ambrose won for the fourth time in seven matches by sweeping both Culver-Stockton and Central Christian Friday afternoon in Canton, Mo.

The Bees defeated Culver-Stockton 25-22, 25-23, 25-19 before taking down Central Christian 25-9, 25-23, 25-10.

After splitting two previous matchups with the Wildcats, the Bees took the tiebreaker. St. Ambrose hit better than .400 in two of the three sets with just three total hitting errors in the first and third sets combined.

Leading 23-22 late, SAU got kills from Jon Guch and Charlie Flynn to close out the first set. The Bees finished with 10 kills and one hitting error in the opener.

The second set was tied as late as 20-20. Two CSC errors and kills from Nick Fox and Ethan Chausse put SAU in front 24-20. The Wildcats erased three set points before a final Fox kill closed the set.

The final set wasn't as dramatic as the Bees put down 16 kills against just two errors to hit .483 in closing out the 3-0 win.

Fox led the way with 16 kills and not a single error. Flynn had eight kills and zero errors. Chausse finished with five kills, Guch had four and Cael Anderson and Brandon Edwards had three apiece.

Andreas Indicatti Mariani (15) and Anthony Anderson (14) combined for 29 of the team's 34 assists. Chausse picked up a team-best seven digs while Ethan Karban had five. Fox was credited with eight blocks while Guch was in on five.

St. Ambrose continued its strong hitting in the 3-0 win over Central Christian, finishing at a .403 clip.

After cruising through the first set, the second set was tied at 20-20. Kills from Cael Anderson and Flynn, along with a Chausse ace, staked SAU to a 24-20 lead. Four points later, a Flynn kill gave the Bees a 2-0 lead. St. Ambrose dominated the final set to close out the big day.

Flynn had a team-best nine kills. Fox and Zander Larson each put down seven. Chausse had five, Edwards three, and Guch and Cael Anderson each had two.

Anthony Anderson led all players with 21 assists. Mariani finished with 11. Ryan Hudson paced the team with seven digs. Chausse had five and Karban collected three.

St. Ambrose (5-22) returns to CCAC play Tuesday at home against Trinity Christian.
