St. Ambrose drops CCAC opener at No. 13 Saint Xavier

As part of a triangular in Chicago, St. Ambrose dropped its conference opener to host and No. 13-ranked Saint Xavier 25-20, 25-18, 25-21 Saturday afternoon.

The Bees started out slowly, recording more hitting errors (six) than kills (four) in the opening set.

From there, SAU upped its play, collecting 20 kills against just eight hitting errors over the final two sets, but the team was unable to keep up with nationally-ranked Saint Xavier (4-5, 3-0 CCAC).

Mikolaj Zielonka led St. Ambrose with nine kills. Charlie Flynn had five, Nick Fox three and Richard Reed IV two. Cael Anderson and Dan Rice were each credited with one kill.

Anthony Anderson had a team-best 16 assists. Ethan Chausse had five. Zielonka and Ethan Karban each picked up five digs.

SAU closed the day with a 25-11, 24-26, 25-18, 25-22 loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering.

MSOE (4-3) registered at least 12 kills in each of the four sets, including a match-best 17 in the third.

Jon Guch paced the Bees with 12 kills. Zielonka put down nine, Flynn had six, Fox recorded five and Rice added three.

Anthony Anderson (19) and Chausse (12) combined for 31 of the team's 32 assists. Fox was credited with nine digs in the loss.

St. Ambrose (1-14, 0-1 CCAC) will visit Augustana Wednesday.
