St. Ambrose falls to Dordt, Grand View

St. Ambrose continued a difficult stretch in the early part of the season by dropping a pair of matches at Dordt Saturday. SAU fell 25-20, 25-16, 25-21 to the host school before falling 25-13, 25-18, 29-27 to No. 5 Grand View.

Nick Fox led the Bees against Dordt with 10 kills. He had just one hitting error to finish with a .600 hitting percentage.

Mikolaj Zielonka, Richard Reed IV and Brandon Edwards each collected five kills. Charlie Flynn put down four, Jon Guch had three and Anthony Anderson added two.

Anderson also led St. Ambrose with 19 assists. Andreas Indicatti Mariani had seven and Ethan Karban, who led the team with six digs, had three assists. Fox and Mariani were each credited with four kills.

SAU went toe-to-toe with nationally-ranked Grand View. The Bees had a pair of set points in the third but were unable to capitalize after building a 24-22 lead. St. Ambrose (1-9) then fought off three match points before falling.

Flynn had a team-high eight kills. Zielonka finished with six, Fox had five and Edwards added three. Guch and Reed had one kill apiece.

Anderson (13) and Mariani (10) combined for 23 of the team's 24 assists. Mariani also led the team with four digs. Zielonka and Karban each had three.

St. Ambrose will return home to host Culver-Stockton Tuesday.
